Carpet Types

There are a wide range of carpet types that Wigmore Flooring offers, the carpet types serve different purposes and are suitable for varying applications. Most people chose a carpet based on colour, style and comfort, however, carpets should also be chosen based on the ability to maintain them, keep them clean and durable.

  • What Carpet Types We Can Supply

Popular carpet types include Twist, Saxony, Loop Pile, Pattern, Textured Wool, Plain Wool, Berber and more. Popular design styles include plain, wool, modern patterned, traditional patterned, sculptured, modern, natural, shaggy and textured Berber. Each carpet type has different properties, some carpets are durable, some carpets are much easier to keep clean, some carpets are more suited to high-traffic environments and so forth. Below, are some of the most popular carpet types and the materials used to manufacture them.

  • Wool Carpets

Wool carpets are a popular choice for homeowners, they are durable, hardwearing, comfy and provide rich colours. They are generally mixed with other synthetic materials such as polyester to give them a comfy feeling, luxury appearance and additional durability against wear. Wool carpets often have a pile that springs back after it has had weight applied to it and provides a great level of cushioning from the underlay/floorboards.

  • Nylon Carpets

Nylon carpets are man-made material that is fully synthetic and highly resistant to general wear and tear. They are suitable for high-traffic locations and can retain their colours and patterns even under significant traffic. Nylon carpets are sometimes referred to as “Polyamide Carpets” and can be styled after tufting.

  • Polypropylene Carpets

Polypropylene carpets are one of the most common carpet types available and can be found in most homes. Its low cost and excellent resistance to wear and stains make this suitable for almost all house applications. Polypropylene carpets don’t have the same luxury feel as the more expensive carpets such as wool, but, for the money, they offer great value. Due to the synthetic nature of this carpet, it can be cleaned using stronger chemicals which would otherwise bleach or ruin the colours of the fibres on other non-synthetic / part synthetic carpet types.
